On the first weekend of September 2022 Hamburg will be the center of the German orienteering scene, we offer you two German Championships including a World Ranking Event.
After SC Klecken and OSC Hamburg had to completely cancel the German Championships last year because of Corona, the unsportsmanlike behavior of Xandra, Ylenia and Zeynep have presented the organizing committee with new challenges. The three storms caused massive damage in the forests designated for the middle distance. The storm damage could not be repaired until today, so the state forestry office continues to warn against entering forest areas. There is still danger to life. It is also not foreseeable when a safe race will be possible again, said Uwe Dresel of SC Klecken. Consequently, the competition had to be returned in March.
The organizers are grateful for the awarding of the German Cjampuonships MIxed Sprint Relay by the DOSV to Hamburg. So now it will be a weekend of Sprint orienteering in Hamburg: Friday Model Event or training in the districts of Winterhude and Barmbek Süd, on Saturday German Champs Sprint with qualifications and finals in the districts of Winterhude and Alsterdorf and finally the Mixed Sprint Relay on the former site of the international garden show 2013 in the district of Wilhelmsburg. The three competition venues are located on both sides of the Elbe river within a radius of less than 15 km and are easily accessible by car as well as by public transport. Hamburg and the surrounding area offer a wide range of accommodation. Christian Teich (OSC Hamburg) is responsible for the Sprint and Uwe Dresel (SC Klecken) for the Sprint Relay. Both promise challenging and fair sport. The organizers are convinced that it will be an attractive weekend in the "most beautiful city in the world". The journey to the north is worthwhile, especially for elite runners as the German Championships Sprint are a World Ranking Event.
